“From a returning customer - great place and hospitality”
From: Greece, Athens
First visited in 2009 with my family and am returning ever since including for almost a month in 2010. After several years in Greece I think I finally found the best place for family vacation.
There are two spacious new rooms smartly furbished, a real fully equipped kitchen (not a kitchenette of a standard Greek room). From you balcony you have a view on the sea and the distant Zakynthos island, and from your back door you see the Mount Ainos, the highest on the archipelago. The two cottages are built in smart traditional style and are surrounded by beautiful small garden with banana trees and flowers. And there is green everywhere, so rare for the Greek islands.
The charming owner, Anna, and her daughter Kriti are always welcoming and helpful, and the cleaning lady Pepi is doing her job perfectly. We became friends.
From your room you have only 50 meters to the beach which is getting Blue Flag for the most years. It is a 3-kilometers stretch of mixed pebble and sand. The beach is barely developed and does not have heavy crowds, in fact, in 2011 during mid-season it was almost empty. There are no big hotels, no tourist traps, no bars with loud music, so at night there is tranquility here. There are several taverns on the beach, the best being Klimatis, as well as many more up the road in Vlachata. There are several beach attractions too. In mid-August there is a large all-night beach party with quality music, organized by locals.
The only downside of the place is that it is a 3-kilometers steep way up until you find relatively reliable bus connection, so you invariably will need a car (there are some rentals in Vlachata, or go to Argostoli, the capital).
The island itself is beautiful and relatively unspoiled by reckless package tourism development. There are several towns, the largest being newly but decently rebuilt Argostoli, but also Lixouri, Sami and Skala. For the best sunset go to the castle of Assos or the famous Mirtos beach or to the fishing village of Fiskardo. There is the beautiful Melissani cave (with steep prices for a short boat trip). Anyway, in three years we have not explored the whole island, because it is so large.
Of course I recommend the rooms for everyone, but especially for families. I remember a couple with children who came by car for one or two days and stayed for many, even if their planned European tour was delayed.
Cefalonia in general is an exceptionally good place for holidays. But I will always remember the hospitality of Anna and the sense of tranquility here in Thomatos apartments and surely will return even from far away after leaving Greece.

“will be back”
Thomatos apartments are a delight. The location is right on Lourdas beach, which is a beautiful quiet beach with a number of tavernas and a couple of beach bars. The apartments are run by Anna and her daughter Criti. They are both really friendly and helpful and happy to help. The apartments are clean and bright and have everything you need for a couple of weeks in Greece. The view over the bay at the front was unbelieveable, only to be beaten by the view from the back balcony of the mountain. Would definitely recommend to couples or families with small children looking for a quiet holiday, enjoy eating out - lots of choice either on the beach or up the hill to the village. Older children who are looking for more entertainment might find it too quiet, although there are one or two nice bars.

We took a gamble on this place, as we now only ever go to places reviewed favourably on Tripadvisor.
However I liked the look of it from the website, and decided to stay there for one night on a trip round the island. I'm so glad we did! If anything the photos on their own website do not do the place justice. Driving along the little road by the sea and arriving here was one of the best moments of our trip. You arrive in such a great location, you have the mountains on one side, the beach on the other, and this place in between with gardens on either side. Lourdas was so utterly charming and unspoilt, there were flowers everywhere.
We didn't have much hopes for the room, as for the price (€80 I think) we knew it would be quite basic. It was, but it was nice and spacious enough, and had everything we needed, large fridge, air-con and a separate kitchen room. We were lucky to have the front room on the top floor and the view from the spacious balcony was to die for.
The beach, a mere 30 seconds away had the clearest water I've ever seen.
This place will always have a special place in our hearts, we hope to return some day.
